About This Yatra

The Ayodhya Ram Yatra is a pilgrimage to the birthplace of Lord Ram, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and the protagonist of the epic Ramayana. Ayodhya, situated on the banks of the sacred Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh, is one of the seven Mokshapuris — cities where Hindus believe liberation can be attained. The city has experienced a remarkable transformation in recent years with the construction of the grand Ram Mandir at the site believed to be Ram's exact birthplace, drawing millions of devotees from across the world. The centerpiece of the yatra is the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, a stunning example of Nagara-style architecture built entirely in pink sandstone. The temple's three stories house the deity of Ram Lalla (infant Lord Ram) in the ground-floor sanctum. The intricate carvings depicting scenes from the Ramayana, the massive pillars, and the soaring shikhara make this one of the most magnificent Hindu temples built in modern times. The emotional weight of being at the site where Lord Ram is believed to have been born makes the darshan profoundly moving. Beyond the main temple, Ayodhya offers a wealth of spiritual sites. Hanuman Garhi, a fortress-like temple perched on a hill, is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is traditionally the first stop for pilgrims. Kanak Bhawan, gifted by Queen Kaikeyi to Sita and Ram, houses beautiful golden and silver images of the divine couple. The ghats along the Saryu river, particularly Ram Ki Paidi with its elegant steps, provide a serene setting for evening aarti and contemplative walks. The yatra is best experienced during festivals, especially Diwali (celebrated as Ram's return to Ayodhya) and Ram Navami (his birthday). The city transforms into a spectacle of lights and devotion during these occasions. The pleasant winter months from October to March are ideal for the visit. Ayodhya is well connected by the new airport, railways, and highways, making it increasingly accessible to pilgrims worldwide.
