The temple sits on a circular hillock at the center of Thrissur city (Swaraj Round). Enter through any of the four gopuram gateways. Remove footwear at the entrance. The massive circular compound wall itself is a sight.
Proceed to the central shrine of Lord Shiva. The Shiva Lingam is entirely covered in a massive mound of ghee (clarified butter) accumulated over centuries of offerings. Take darshan and offer prayers.
The complex houses separate shrines for Parvati (Sree Rama), Shankaranarayana (Vishnu), and Lord Krishna. Circumambulate the main shrine visiting each subsidiary temple.
Visit the Vadakkechira temple tank on the north side. Observe the exquisite mural paintings on the walls depicting scenes from the Mahabharata — considered among the finest in Kerala.
