Durga Puja: Bengal's Grandest Festival

Durga Puja, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is Bengal's defining cultural event. For five days in the autumn month of Ashwin (September-October), the entire state transforms into a gallery of art, devotion, and celebration. Thousands of community pandals compete to create the most innovative and spectacular Durga idols and themed environments, while millions of people participate in what is essentially the world's largest open-air art festival.
