Significance
Celebration of love, spring, and triumph of good over evil
Holika Dahan
On the eve of Holi, a bonfire is lit at dusk symbolizing the burning of the demoness Holika. People gather around the fire, perform parikrama, and offer coconut and grains to the flames.
Playing with Colors
On the morning of Dhulandi, people apply gulal (dry colors) and spray colored water on friends and family. Music and dancing accompany the festivities.
Community Celebrations
Neighborhoods organize Holi parties with DJ music, rain dances, and communal feasts. Social barriers dissolve as everyone celebrates together.
Thandai and Sweets
Traditional drinks like thandai and sweets like gujiya, malpua, and puran poli are prepared and shared among the community.
Organic Gulal
Natural colored powders made from flowers and food-grade ingredients are safer and eco-friendly alternatives to chemical colors.
Pichkari and Balloons
Water guns and balloons filled with colored water for playful spraying during Holi celebrations.
Skin Protection
Apply coconut oil or mustard oil on exposed skin before playing to make color removal easier afterward.
Gujiya Ingredients
Maida, khoya, dry fruits, and sugar for making the signature Holi sweet — gujiya.

The Hindu New Year celebrated as Ugadi in South India and Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, welcoming spring with the symbolic six-taste Pachadi and the victory Gudi.
